Study Abroad
Time spent living and studying outside the United States invariably enriches students' engagement with normative questions of law and public policy, and therefore the PPEL faculty strongly encourages majors to study abroad. To date, PPEL majors have studied in Argentina, Australia, The Czech Republic, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Nepal, The Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, and Switzerland.
Considerations
While the five core courses in the PPEL major (ECON 101, PPEL 261, PPEL 262, PPEL 363, and PPEL 401) must be completed at the University of Richmond, students may fulfill any other requirement within the major during their study abroad, provided the PPEL faculty approve the course for that purpose. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with the PPEL Coordinator to discuss earning credit toward the major before they begin their study abroad program.
Recommended Programs
The list below consists of study abroad programs that are offered through existing affiliations with the University of Richmond, and that offer a variety of courses in philosophy, politics, economics, or law. Please note that other affiliated UR study abroad programs may also offer courses that can count toward the PPEL major, and that the PPEL faculty believe study abroad to be very worthwhile even if students are unable to count any of the courses they take toward completion of the major.
